Riddled throughout the latter half of the book the speeches on the topic of the war in Iraq, lies countless ways of persuasion. When one sensibly inspects them certain implications can be conjured up that paint a clearer picture of the now departed, honorable man that Senator Byrd was. After analyzing the novel in its completeness I noticed patterns of inducement that Byrd emulates multiple times. While there is a quantity of people in opposition of the war in Iraq who accept as true that shouting the loudest and being the crossest will in some way deter the Bush administration. Although, it is my credence that Byrd is clever enough to realize this is not the way in which one gets their point across that is worthy of reverence. Not even once do his words contain that of rage. This circles back to what Aristotle spoke about regarding rage, which was fundamentally that it blinds and overcomes them which is not the case here. â€Å"Another kind of Barbarianism proceeds from the speaker s temper: for instance, we regard it as barbarous if a speaker use cruel or brutal language† and so, by not letting his sentiments define him he holds greater impact (Quintilian 83).
